But what have varied enormously are the ways in which various societies have regarded homosexuality, the meanings they have attached to it, and how those who were engaged in homosexual activity viewed themselves.” (Weeks, 2)
“Homosexuality has existed throughout history, in all types of society, among all social classes and peoples, and it has survived qualified approval, indifference and the most vicious persecution. The straight community has helped me probably more in accepting myself as a gay man than the gay community could ever.Cet article a été rédigé dans le cadre d'un stage de Master. Not only your issue though Dempsey's: the gay community in general is incredibly discriminatory and your just a representation of that rearing it's ugly head. And you could potentially scupper that up for no good reason and that's what you did for me. I can't forget this bad day you guys gave me! Do you realise Dempsey's?.It's not only a business but on any given day it could be a persons route to self-discovery. Still to this day I haven't deliberately gone to a gay bar because of the bad experience I had at this one.I have been to many straight clubs and staff have been nice.so why a GAY bar of all places would discriminate more than the straight' world and treat its ethnic minority customers and those who dont fit the stereotypical young, pretty and white mould with courtesy and good customer service is beyond me?Īt the end of the day the business themselves have destroyed an opportunity to be the only decent gay club in Sheffield and the sad thing is that this is all we have! (But I still appreciate that act of kindness, if that's what you can call it) The staff a woman this time brought me a glass of water didn't ask if I was okay just left it out for me as if I was a dog. I danced on my own and requested a few tracks from the dj who was actually a decent guy!ĭrank too much needed to vomit so ran outside

Staff: "You know this is a gay club don't ya" Got inside and the door staff were immediately rude (a man replied behind a plastic barrier) A Gay, brown Muslim lad tying to meet gays, have fun and find myself in this world. I’ve had women warn me about this place before, but now I have witnessed it first hand. If you’re female, don’t go here unless you have someone to keep you safe. Absolutely disgusting, but what can you expect from South Yorkshire Police? The 2 female police officers had a good laugh with the security team, when it came to taking my statement they said it was reasonable force (without seeing any evidence whatsoever) and when I said they’d exposed her underwear to everyone the response was “that’s just what happens”. Once police arrived they took the poor girl away in a police car. The female security staff grabbed me and snatched my phone out of my hand at one point but I took it back. I started to film what was happening and they did not like this one bit. Bear in mind they had not done this to any men who were actually fighting in the club before. Outside, the security team proceeded to pin the girl to the concrete for around 30 minutes and called the police on her. I was then also told to leave the club because they didn’t like me telling them that they were in the wrong. At this point I pushed my way through and started shouting at the security staff that they were assaulting the poor girl. As they gave a final drag down the stairs, the girls underwear was exposed to everyone. I told them it wasn’t necessary and was trying to calm the girl down.
The next thing we saw was the security team (4 men 1 woman) dragging the girl down the stairs by her feet. We got her water and tried to get her into a better state. My partner and I noticed a girl who had clearly had too much to drink and was being taken advantage of by other customers. The downfall to the place is the security staff. The club itself is actually quite a good venue and atmosphere.
